OnePlus has been known to match its flagship smartphones with fantastic accessories, from its numerous cases to backpacks and earbuds. Missing, however, are true wireless (TWS) earbuds similar to what most audio-centric manufacturers already have. This may likely change at the brand’s next major event.

While it’s been rumored for a couple of months that OnePlus has true wireless earbuds in the works, it’s only now that we’re getting a more solid confirmation of when we’ll actually see them. The newest information comes from a tweet by Max J., who’s known for accurate Samsung product leaks.

Part of the OnePlus 8 Equation

According to him, the yet-to-be-named true wireless earbuds of OnePlus will launch simultaneously with the upcoming OnePlus 8, which is the company’s next flagship smartphone. Although there’s no exact date yet, the event is expected to happen in mid-May — one year after the unveiling of the OnePlus 7 series.

Like most flagship handsets today, the OnePlus 8 is more or less guaranteed to have no audio port. This makes a matching pair of TWS earbuds the perfect complement, just like how the AirPods sync perfectly with the latest iPhones.

Successor to the OnePlus Bullets Wireless 2

These upcoming earbuds won’t be OnePlus’ first wireless audio devices, however. Previously, OnePlus launched the Bullets Wireless in 2018 (alongside the OnePlus 6), followed by the Bullets Wireless 2 in 2019 (together with the OnePlus 7). It seems only natural for OnePlus to release the next generation the following year.

The newest OnePlus earbuds have something that its predecessors don’t have, though: absolutely no wires. The first two models needed a wire connecting the stereo earbuds, making them more difficult to lose but tougher to store in a pocket. By offering a TWS design, OnePlus will have a proper competitor against Apple’s AirPods and Samsung’s Galaxy Buds.

OnePlus has a reputation for undercutting the competition by setting their prices slightly below the industry standards, so it wouldn’t be surprising if the brand launches the TWS earbuds at an affordable price. For reference, the Bullets Wireless 2 currently retails for $99.

There’s currently no information pertaining to the design of the OnePlus TWS earbuds, but as May draws closer, we’re assured to see more leaks of the product and its accompanying smartphones.
