Say hello to the White Empyrean, 105 AER, and Alba IEMs.

Meze Audio has shown off a trio of new products that appeal to audiophiles across the spectrum.

Leading the pack is the limited edition “White Empyrean” – a fresh new color version of Meze’s top planar magnetic headphones. Joining these are the affordable 105 AER open-back headphones and the versatile Alba in-ear monitors.

This makes sure there’s something for all types of audiophiles with different budgets and priorities.

The White Empyrean keeps the amazing sound performance that made the original Empyrean so loved. However, this limited edition swaps the dark look for a bright white finish, which is a first for Meze’s high-end line.

According to Meze Audio, they created these as a sign of Meze’s shift to a lighter color palette. It follows the brand’s new look and feel on its website.

As you might have noticed on our new website, we’re adopting lighter, natural colors, as a sign of spiritual growth and mindfulness. The White Empyrean is our first limited edition that conveys this message.” says Meze Audio in an interview.

105 AER Features

For those looking for an affordable way to have Meze’s signature tuning, the new 105 AER open-back headphones deliver just that at a $400 price.

These headphones follow the design of the 109 Pro. But, they are said to be different in all other aspects except the headband system and velour earpads.

For example, the 105 AER use 50mm dynamic drivers. These are covered with PEEK polymer surrounds instead of the beryllium coating of the 109 Pro.

The drivers also have carbon fiber-enforced cellulose composite domes. And, they are housed in ABS plastic earcups (instead of aluminum) that are shaped like intricate mechanical jewelry pieces.

These choices may have been made to cut costs and meet the community’s request for more affordable open-back headphones. But Meze promises they won’t hurt the listening experience.

“AER is a Romanian word, signifying AIR. Silent. Unseen. Essential. Air finds expression through invisible vibrations that become audible poetry. 105 AER is our invitation to let the air in and experience the multi-dimensional depth of music. All you have to do is listen.” explains Meze Audio.

Because of this, the 105 AER are tuned for an airy, natural sound that lets the warm midrange shine through and is joined by a wide but controlled soundstage. The treble is also slightly relaxed, while the bass packs just the right amount of punch and impact.

Despite their open design, Meze engineered the 105 AER as an easy load to drive from most sources. Case in point, the 105 AER only have a 42 Ω impedance rating.

Alba Features

Meze made the Alba for audiophiles on the go, giving an affordable yet high-end intro to its signature neutral-warm sound.

These in-ear monitors pack 10.8mm dynamic drivers in shiny rainbow pearl-finished zinc alloy shells, all for just $150.

“ALBA is a Romanian word, signifying THE FIRST LIGHT. And this is precisely how we think of Alba within our portfolio: as the first touchpoint with the Meze Audio universe and the Meze sound.” says Meze Audio.

The Alba’s design is based highly on the pricier Meze Advar.

Their small form factor keeps Meze’s sleek design language, making sure they have high comfort, fit, and noise isolation. Yet, their internal chamber is modified to fit the 2-pin connection.

It’s not just about the design, though. The Alba also boast low distortion (<0.1% @ 1kHz), a wide 15Hz-25kHz frequency range, and a sensitivity of 109dB SPL/V @ 1kHz from its 32ohm impedance.

These IEMs come with a custom 3.5mm to USB-C adapter with an integrated DAC/Amp, a braided detachable cable, an eco-leather carrying pouch, and silicone ear tips in S, M, L, and XL sizes.

Where to Buy

The $400 105 AER open-back headphones and $150 Alba IEMs will be out this summer, with color options and exact buy links to be shared closer to launch.
