No grill, just thrills.
HiFiMan’s highly respected Susvara just got a bold upgrade that’s sending shockwaves through headphone forums – the SUSVARA UNVEILED. These new flagship open-back planar magnetic headphones claim to push the limits of sound quality with their unique design and wallet-busting $8,000 price tag.
One look at these new models will have you focusing on one thing: the lack of the traditional metal grill.
But that’s not a design flaw!
According to HiFiMan, they decided to remove this to provide a more open and detailed sound experience that sets the SUSVARA UNVEILED apart.
“We named the new model SUSVARA UNVEILED because every detail of well-recorded music is unveiled by the headphone’s design and components.” says Dr. Fang Bian, the Founder and CEO of HIFIMAN Electronics.
“As the follow-up to our successful SUSVARA reference headphone, SUSVARA UNVEILED is the manifestation of our ongoing commitment to continually improving upon even the most successful and highest performing products in our line.”
HiFiMan SUSVARA UNVEILED Features
The SUSVARA UNVEILED have a newly developed nanometer-thickness diaphragm, which are said to provide high sensitivity and detailed sound reproduction.
Due to these new drivers, HiFiMan chose to remove the traditional metal grill to make sure the headphones deliver the best possible sound quality.
But fear not. These drivers aren’t left defenseless.
That’s where the removable “Magnetic Veils” back panels, crafted using CNC (Computer Numerical Control) technology, come in.
These veils fit over the ear cups when not in use to safeguard against dust or other materials during storage. And, they also protect against any magnetic objects that might cause damage.
The SUSVARA UNVEILED doesn’t stop there, though.
These headphones also feature a metallic silver conductor layer that maximizes conductivity to reveal subtle audio nuances. This aims to improve the sense of “airiness” in the audio compared to the original SUSVARA’s sound.
Plus, to make it even better, the UNVEILED also have HiFiMan’s Stealth Magnet technology, with its asymmetrical, double-sided magnetic circuit. This fine-tunes the magnet’s gap and shape that can greatly reduce distortion.
So, you can expect a warmer, more natural sound with superior imaging and transparency.
Technical specifications
- Frequency Response: 6Hz-75kHz
- Sensitivity: 86dB
- Impedance: 45Ω
- Weight: 430 grams

Looking at the specs, there aren’t many differences between the SUSVARA UNVEILED and the original SUSVARA. In fact, the only main differences are the impedance, which is lower by 15 Ω in the new model, and the sensitivity, which is higher by 3 dB.
However, the new design and materials are expected to provide a very different sound than the original model.
