Cambridge Audio’s first wireless over-ear headphones are serious about battery life.

After half a century in the audio industry, Cambridge Audio has finally released its first wireless over-ear headphones, the Melomania P100. But these headphones aren’t just another entry in the crowded wireless headphone market. They’re targeting to fix one of the most common issues for wireless headphones users: battery life.

The P100’s main feature is their impressive 100-hour battery life. This means you won’t need to search for a charger in the middle of your playlist or worry about your headphones running out of power during a long flight.

With the P100, you could listen to music for days, not just hours.

“Melomania P100 is the closest you can get to a personal, portable Cambridge Audio hi-fi system. Our award-winning true wireless models gave our listeners an on-the-go entry to the Cambridge sound. But we wanted to offer music lovers a flagship over-ear option as well,” says James Johnson-Flint, owner of Cambridge Audio.

That jaw-dropping 100-hour battery life applies when Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) is turned off. But, even with ANC enabled, you’re still looking at an impressive 60 hours of playback.

To put this in perspective, this far surpasses the industry standard, with most premium wireless headphones offering between 20 to 30 hours of battery life.

But Cambridge Audio didn’t stop there.

If you’re caught short, the P100 also have a rapid charging feature so listeners are rarely left without music. With this, a mere five-minute charge provides two hours of ANC-enabled playback.

To squeeze every last drop out of that massive battery, the P100 also have wear detection, which stops your music when you take the headphones off.

And for those times when wireless isn’t an option, the P100 can use the USB-C and 3.5mm wired connections.

But the P100 aren’t just about long battery life. Cambridge Audio made sure they sound good too.

These headphones use Class AB amplification to power custom 40mm three-layer composite drivers with neodymium magnets. It’s the same technology in Cambridge Audio’s high-end CX Series hi-fi amps.

The result? A balanced, full-bodied sound that should satisfy most listeners.

On the connectivity front, the P100 use Bluetooth 5.3 with Multipoint Connection for seamless switching between two devices. Plus, codec support is comprehensive, covering aptX Adaptive, AAC, and SBC for broad compatibility.

But the real treat is the inclusion of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Sound with aptX Lossless. This enables CD-quality or up to 24bit/96kHz wireless playback without compression, which not a lot of premium wireless options offer yet.

A Qualcomm QCC3084 processor works with an Analog Devices ADAU1787 codec to improve audio quality while saving power.

The P100 also have an adaptive hybrid ANC system with three settings you can choose from. This way, you can adjust your listening experience for different environments.

You can also turn on transparency mode when you need to hear your surroundings without taking off the headphones with just a single tap.

If the default settings still aren’t enough, you can customize your listening experience using the Melomania Connect app. This has a seven-band equalizer and six genre-specific presets that should help you fine-tune the sound quality to your liking.

And, if you like gaming, you can turn on the low-latency Gaming Mode, which reduces audio lag to 80ms for better sync during gaming or video watching.

To cover all bases, Cambridge Audio also added six microphones with Qualcomm’s cVc Echo Cancelling and Noise Suppression Technology for clearer calls.

Lastly, Cambridge Audio has also made sustainability a priority.

With this, the P100 are made with 50% recycled plastic and 100% recycled rare earth neodymium and the packaging is fully recyclable and plastic-free. Both the battery and earcup pads can also be replaced by users, making the product last longer and reducing electronic waste.

This eco-friendly approach fits with Cambridge Audio’s support as a Founding Donor of EarthPercent, the eco-music charity co-founded by Brian Eno.
