ACTIVO dips its toes into the IEM market with a promising debut.

Astell&Kern’s ACTIVO line is stepping into new territory with the introduction of the ACTIVO Q1 in-ear monitors (IEMs).

Made with DITA Audio, these are ACTIVO’s first IEMs ever, designed to complement the recently launched ACTIVO P1 digital audio player. Together, these are made to be the top choice for audiophiles, who are tired of trading sound quality for portability.

One standout feature of the ACTIVO Q1 is the hybrid driver setup. Here, DITA’s new PM1+ 9.8mm brass dynamic driver works with a single Knowles balanced armature driver.

The setup promises to give a clear and powerful response across the entire audible spectrum (20 Hz to 20 kHz).

Plus, with 109 dB/mW at 1 kHz and 31 Ohms impedance, they don’t need much power to play at high volumes. Meaning, you won’t have to worry about power requirements and compatibility with various audio sources.

Speaking of compatibility, the Q1 comes with DITA’s Awesome Plug Version 2 (APV2) system with both 4.4mm balanced and 3.5mm single-ended connecting plugs.

With this, you can easily switch between different audio sources without changing cables. So, these IEMs can work on both high-end audio players and everyday devices without any hassle.

It doesn’t stop there, though. The cable itself deserves attention.

The ACTIVO Q1 IEMs come with DITA’s improved MOCCA cable, constructed with 32 strands of Cardas conductors. That’s double the amount found in the original Project M’s cable!

This could result in improved signal transmission and reduced interference for clearer sound reproduction.

Of course, Astell&Kern hasn’t overlooked build quality and aesthetics either.

The Q1 features a clear resin body, white powder-coated brass driver casing, and a stainless steel PVD nozzle. And, for comfort, the package includes five different sizes of final Type-E eartips with a final Audio case.

Finally, for those who take their audio on the go, Astell&Kern has included an ACTIVO x DITA branded mini Tanos Systainer case. Known for their durability, these cases should provide ample protection during travel.

This addition aligns well with ACTIVO’s focus on blending active lifestyles with high-quality audio.

Where to Buy

The ACTIVO Q1 is scheduled for release in October 2024.

Also, Astell&Kern has not yet announced pricing or specific availability details. But, they promise to share this information closer to the launch date.

If you can’t wait, you can get a first look at the ACTIVO Q1 during the Hong Kong AV Show, taking place August 9-11 at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre.
