But we can expect an upgraded version of the first-gen AirPods Max, soon!
A Redditor, Varrock, recently debunked expectations for a second-gen AirPods Max this year. Since Apple said there will only be minor updates, the AirPods Max to be released this year will still be considered as “first-generation”.
The Reality of the Next AirPods Max Release
On Reddit’s r/Airpodsmax, Varrock recently shared the news that put a pause on the rumor mill surrounding the anticipated launch of the second-generation AirPods Max.
According to the post, the expected updates are limited to the following:
- a USB-C port for charging
- wired audio playback
- an upgrade to Bluetooth 5.3 for enhanced audio connectivity
- new color schemes
These updates are focused on enhancing the current model rather than introducing a brand-new version. As such, this suggests that Apple is not yet ready to roll out a second-gen version but rather just an updated variant of the first-gen AirPods Max.
The OP also advises those on the fence about purchasing the current model due to rumors of a new release. He says they should go ahead with their purchase unless the USB-C feature is a deal-breaker.
This news aligns with previous insights from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who in October 2023 hinted at a new AirPods Max release towards the end of 2024.
Are Minor Upgrades Enough?
The community’s response to @Varrock’s post was mixed, with many sharing their thoughts on the expected changes.
A lot of users were pleased about the USB-C update, with many referring to it as something they’ve been waiting for.
However, others are hoping for more upgrades.
Some users hope Apple would reduce the weight and possibly the price of the AirPods Max by simplifying the design.
Yet, others wish for more upgraded technical features such as lossless audio support and the H2 chip.
Other users pointed out that they don’t need a lot of upgrades for the AirPods Max. But, they hope Apple will just focus on addressing the current issues such as condensation and droopy mesh.
