Two new options for great sound without a hefty price tag

HiFiMan is broadening its reach within the audiophile community with the introduction of two new desktop DAC/amplifiers, the EF500 and EF499. These models are designed to bring audiophile-grade performance to a broader audience, offering high-quality sound in a more compact and affordable package.

“The success of our reference desktop DAC/amplifiers is proof that music lovers are hungry to invest in gear that has a demonstrably positive effect on the listening experience.

With our new models, we are able to extend the benefits of these products to moderately priced models that put the sonic attributes of our sonic signature within reach of more headphone fans than ever before.” says Dr. Fang Bian, President and CEO of HiFiMan.

The EF500 features the proprietary Hymalaya LE ladder DAC technology.

This employs a “ladder” of highly accurate resistors to convert digital signals into analog with unparalleled precision, ensuring an audio experience that is both rich and authentic.

The DAC’s design emphasizes minimal total harmonic distortion (THD) and optimized energy consumption.

Here are its specs for a quick reference:

  • THD rate: 0.0025% (-8dB)
  • Channel separation: 131±3 dB
  • Signal-to-noise ratio: 117 dB (A-Weighted)
  • Maximum Power Output: 4.5 wpc@ 32 Ω balanced or 1.32 WPC@ 32 Ω unbalanced
  • Weight: around 3.37kg

Moreover, the EF500’s industrial design not only adds an elegant touch to any desktop. It also serves a practical purpose as a headphone stand, enhancing the user’s space with its multifunctionality.

EF499 Features

The EF499 follows closely in its sibling’s footsteps. But, it employs the revered Philips R2R DAC architecture. This provides a naturally warm, full-range sound signature.

It shares the same sleek, industrial design as the EF500, serving dual purposes as both an amplifier and a headphone stand, thereby maintaining a clutter-free workspace.

But, the EF499 follows a different sonic path. Here are its specs:

  • THD rate: 0.008% (0dB)
  • Channel separation: 95±3dB
  • Signal-to-noise ratio: 99dB (A-weighted, AP Open Loop Test)
  • Maximum Power Output: 4.35 WPC@ 32 Ω balanced or 1.28 WPC@ 32 Ω unbalanced
  • Weight: around 3.3kg
