This Bose and Kith collab aims to combine fashion with high-quality audio, but not everyone agrees.

Bose, a leader in premium audio solutions, has teamed up with Kith, a lifestyle and fashion brand, to unveil a new product – the Bose Ultra Open Earbuds. These earbuds, priced at $300, feature a unique cuff-shaped design that clips onto the outer ears instead of resting inside the ear canal.

“With this product launch, we’re bringing together two passionate communities that inspire one another — music lovers and fashion trendsetters — to show them they don’t have to sacrifice exceptional sound for fashion,” said Jim Mollica, Chief Marketing Officer at Bose.

The Earbuds’ Design Offers Extra Awareness and Style

Breaking away from conventional designs, the Bose Ultra Open earbuds’ design is not only a departure from traditional in-ear models. Instead, this also serves to preserve total environmental awareness for the user.

Unlike typical earbuds that block the ear canal, the Ultra Open Earbuds only attach to the side of the ear, making them more of a fashion accessory than a standard audio device.

“The Kith for Bose Ultra Open Earbuds are an incomparable, all-day wearable that elevate your style and let you immerse yourself in music while staying connected to what’s around you.” adds Jim Mollica.

These earbuds are also designed to be compatible with glasses, hats, or jewelry, ensuring they don’t interfere with personal style.

They are crafted with polished soft edges and a sleek matte black colorway, co-designed by both brands. Each earbud showcases a uniquely altered Kith logo in Bose’s iconic block lettering. This reflects the two brands’ collaborative effort in design.

Additional Features and Specs

Aside from the design, the Bose Ultra Open Earbuds also have an array of features designed to enhance the audio experience.

“I truly believe Bose to be the best-in-class when it comes to sound, so having them be Kith’s official sound partner and bringing this product to market with them for the first time are important notches in our timeline.” said Ronnie Fieg, Founder, CEO, and Creative Director of Kith.

These earbuds boast a 7.5-hour battery life for continuous listening. This duration extends up to 19.5 hours when coupled with the accompanying charging case.

They are also equipped with the Bose Immersive Audio technology for spatial audio and Bose OpenAudio™ technology for additional transparency features.

Lastly, the earbuds have a water resistance rating of IPX4, ensuring protection against splashing water from any angle. This feature makes them suitable for various environments, from the gym to outdoor activities.

The product page on Kith’s website mentions ‘advanced Bluetooth’ support. However, they didn’t clarify what version this actually supports along with the codecs.

Consumers Raise Mixed Feelings Over the Earbuds’ Design

Following the product announcement, consumer reactions were mixed with excitement, skepticism, and concern.

One user, PolarPanda86, was excited about the earbuds. They emphasized their unique features that might benefit individuals with sensitive ears.

“Damn. I’ve never heard of earbuds like this before! As someone with sensitive ears, I wonder just how comfortable these are!” says PolarPanda86.

However, others are quick to point out the product’s competition with Shokz bone conduction headphones.

User P_Devil talked about the similarities of the benefits with the Shokz OpenFit earbuds. But they also highlighted the large price differences between the two earbuds, making the OpenFit the better option.

“I’m fine with open earbuds, I even have the true wireless ones from Shokz. But they were $150. These are outrageously priced unless they somehow figure out bass and ANC.” says P_Devil.

Other users expressed concerns about the earbuds’ design, questioning their durability and practicality. They mentioned the likelihood of the earbuds falling off during physical activities. And, also raised comfort concerns related to their unique fit.
