Another day, another Crinacle collab. But we’re not complaining!

Moondrop, in collaboration with Crinacle, introduces the Moondrop x Crinacle: DUSK IEMs. Made to outperform the well-liked Blessing2 DUSK, these in-ear monitors use a unique three-driver setup and multiple tuning features for improved sound.

Moondrop X Crinacle: DUSK Features

The DUSK have a unique tribrid driver setup, featuring two dynamic drivers, two balanced armatures, and two planar magnetic drivers. This setup ensures rich, detailed sound across all frequencies.

The two 10mm dynamic drivers aim to deliver potent bass with minimal distortion. This provides an expansive dynamic range and nuanced sound.

But, one of the biggest improvements is the use of planar magnetic drivers. Unlike past models, the DUSK replace the usual balanced armature tweeter with a planar magnetic one. As a result, the DUSK have a smoother, and more natural treble.

These IEMs also feature the Horizontally-Opposed Double Dynamic Driver Module (H.O.D.D.D.U.S.), which arranges the dual 10mm dynamic drivers closely and symmetrically through precise 3D printing.

This arrangement forms a physical band-pass filter and two separate filtering structures and damping devices. It mimics the working of planar magnetic earbuds, leading to better energy conversion efficiency and further reduction in nonlinear distortion.

Each of the dual dynamic drivers consists of a flexible suspension diaphragm with a paper dome. The high damping characteristics of the paper dome ensure the dynamic drivers do not generate extra resonance in the mids and highs.

Because of this, the DUSK promise precise acoustic enhancement and better bass dynamics.

For a more cohesive listening experience, the DUSK boasts high full-band phase consistency thanks to its classic hybrid three-way frequency crossover design.

The DUSK headphones also allow for versatility and user convenience.

They come with a 3.5mm analog cable and a USB-C cable. The latter supports high-resolution 32Bit/384KHz audio decoding for a fully balanced 120 dB dynamic range output.

But the DUSK isn’t just about sound; it also looks great.

These IEMs are made from high-strength carbon fibers treated with ultra-high pressure and temperature. This durable, lightweight material also adds a modern look, showing advanced materials and technology.

The original DUSK frequency curve is relatively flat. They have a subtle emphasis on lower frequencies for a bass boost and a minor 2 kHz dip for a smooth midrange. Plus, they also have a gentle high-frequency rise for clear treble culminating in a sharp dip past 10 kHz to reduce harshness.

This balanced profile forms the base for Crinacle’s custom tunings.

However, MOONDROP offers five special DSP cable tunings created by Crinacle based on the B&K5128 coupler measurements. Using this, users can tailor the sound to their preferences, from enhanced bass to a more even profile.

Each tuning is tailored to specific listening preferences and scenarios:

  • DUSK-Bass+: Significantly boosts lower frequencies for a punchy bass. Ideal for bass-heavy genres and bass enthusiasts.
  • DUSK: Maintains the original balanced profile with subtle refinements. For a neutral listening experience true to recordings.
  • DUSK-Default: Similar to ‘DUSK’ but with a more pronounced 1-2 kHz midrange dip. For enhanced vocal clarity and instrument separation.
  • DUSK-Harman: Based on the Harman target curve. Provides balanced bass emphasis, refined midrange, and tailored treble. For a harmonious, natural sound akin to live music.
  • DUSK-Diffuse: Evens out the sound across frequencies. It has flatter bass, subtle mid-emphasis, and smoother treble peak. Well-suited for classical and acoustic genres with a wide, open soundstage.
