The Nothing Ear (3) may be a toad-al upgrade over its predecessors.

The London-based tech company, Nothing, recently shared a teaser on X of a video showing a frog jumping over a beetle. The teaser hints at the coming launch of its next-generation true wireless earbuds, the Nothing Ear (3).

This suggests that the frog will be the mascot for the upcoming Ear (3), taking over from the beetle mascot used for the Ear (2) model.

Launched in March 2023, the Nothing Ear (2) had a beetle as their mascot, while the original Ear (1) featured ladybugs. The frog’s jump over the beetle represents the Ear (3)’s improvement over its predecessor. However, no specific details about the new earbuds have been officially shared.

Expectations for the Nothing Ear (3) Features and Improvements

Nothing has not shared any information about Ear (3)’s features or specs.

But, the earbuds are expected to keep the see-through design that has become a signature of the company’s products.

The Ear (3) will also likely continue the stem design, a square case, and support for wireless charging. And, they may also include improvements and new features to set them apart from the Ear (2).

We can look at the past upgrades of the Nothing Ear line to know what to expect from the new earbuds.

For one, the Ear (1) offered active noise cancellation (ANC), quick charging, and water resistance at a competitive price point of $99, while other well-known brands charged significantly more for similar features.

They also featured a distinctive transparent design and sound tuning by Teenage Engineering, known for its audio expertise.

Next up, the Ear (2) brought even better ANC that changes based on what’s around you and more ways to make them comfortable in your ears.

The Ear (2) also had some great features, like the support for LDAC codec and dual-device connectivity.

Based on these past releases, the Ear (3) will also probably have many updates besides the design.

We might see even smarter noise control that tunes out the noise around you even better. And since they’ve been big on making things just right for you, the Ear (3) might let you adjust the sound even more to how you like it.

One possible addition could be spatial audio support, a feature that has been missing from previous Nothing earbuds.

Also, the Ear (2) had some downsides, like the lack of swipe controls to change the volume and the matte white case picking up stains easily. But, these issues may be fixed in the new model.

Potential Launch Date

The Nothing Ear (1) were launched back in 2021 and were quickly followed by the Ear Stick and Ear (2) two years later, in March 2023.

Since Nothing Ear (2) is now a year older, we can expect Ear (3) to be launched this year, around April to June 2024.

This became more concrete since a recent leak last February 2024 suggested that the Nothing Ear (3) should’ve launched alongside the Nothing Phone (2a). While the phone already came out last March 2024 without the Ear (3), the BIS certification linked to the leak is evident enough that the launch is coming soon.

We can expect the Ear (3) to cost around $150-$200. Plus, if the Ear (3) are released, the Ear (2) will likely get a price cut from their current $149.00 price tag.
