No more waiting for the end of the year!

Apple Music releases an update that turns Replay into a monthly experience on February 20. This offers users a monthly breakdown of their listening habits, instead of an annual recap, through a browser-only platform at replay.music.apple.com.

Monthly Replay Features

Apple Music’s newly launched ‘Monthly Replay Experience’ stands apart from the typical, annual Apple Music Replay by providing insights more frequently, allowing users to track their musical journey with greater precision.

Subscribers can now view a comprehensive set of statistics including:

  • Total Listening Minutes: A tally of the minutes spent listening to music in the previous month, offering a clear gauge of engagement.
  • Top Artists, Songs, and Albums: Highlighting users’ most listened-to artists, songs, and albums, this feature mirrors the depth of the annual Replay but refreshes monthly, keeping content dynamic and reflective of current preferences.
  • Monthly Milestones: Unique achievements list based on listening patterns, such as when a user reaches a certain number of minutes played, adding a gamified element to music listening.

However, unlike the annual Replay, the monthly version does not feature:

  • Accompanying Playlist: There is no automatically generated playlist that can be added to a user’s library, a notable component of the annual experience.
  • Highlight Reel: The monthly Replay lacks the visual and interactive highlight reel summarizing the year’s listening trends.

Eligibility and Access Details

The feature is only accessible through the web browser. To find this feature, subscribers simply need to go to replay.music.apple.com and sign in with their Apple Music account.

This means that everyone who uses Apple Music, no matter the version of iOS they have on their device, can use this feature. It’s especially useful for those with older devices that can’t get the latest updates.

Yet, it contrasts with the integrated experience offered by the annual Replay, which is seamlessly woven into the Apple Music app.

Users also need to listen to a significant amount of music throughout the month to be eligible for the Replay stats. Else, you’ll only see a screen saying “You didn’t listen enough this month.”

However, Apple has not released any exact information on the minimum numbers.

Users Are Generally Excited About the Monthly Replay

Apple Music’s new Monthly Replay has gotten a lot of people talking.

Many users are excited about the Monthly Replay, suggesting that users like getting more frequent updates on their listening habits. Others are also commending the new features, the UI, and the information these share.

Some also compared the new feature with other third-party listening stats providers like Last.fm and PlayTally. Most of them are happy with the frequency of the updates, which they have likened to their usage of third-party apps.

Despite this, many are hoping that the release of monthly Replays doesn’t mean the loss of the yearly recap.

However, not everyone is happy. A common complaint is that the feature isn’t part of the Apple Music app itself.

“What is the reason that they can’t just build this into the app like Spotify? I’m tired of having to go to a separate webpage for something that feels like it should be easy as hell to just turn into a seamless experience, especially for a trillion dollar company like Apple.” says one user.

This frustration is shared by many, who believe that for a company as big as Apple, creating a more seamless experience should be possible. They feel that integrating the feature directly into the app would make it much easier to use and enjoy.
